More higher education institutions, including Rasmussen College based in Minnetonka, Minn., are incorporating curriculum that would train students on how to work with electronic medical records, according to a Green Bay Press Gazette news report.
As more hospitals and physician practices move toward deploying EMRs to obtain meaningful use incentive payments, there has been a growing need for workers with expertise in working with and understanding the technology.
College programs can focus on a range of training areas, including clinical work, information technology and leadership, according to the news report. Follow-up questionnaires of recent graduates from health IT college programs show many of the graduates enter into part-time or full-time employment as coding specialists, health information technicians and medical records associates.
